Topics for new tutorials

I will be posting a number of new H.264 tutorials over the next few months. I plan to update the existing tutorials (here) and add further topics. The first will be an "easy" introduction to the H.264/AVC standard. I'd welcome requests for new tutorial topics, so please add a comment if you'd like to suggest a topic for a tutorial paper.

I suggest : NAL structure, variants of transmition, what is the differences between x264, H264, how to encapsulate it in TS.

Sławek.

I suggest to add more practical apllication issues..like doing trick modes on AVC, a one to one mapping of Mpeg2/Mpeg4 terms with AVC (like frame/vop in mpeg2/4 - access unit in AVC,), differences between IDR and normal I frames etc etc..

I suggest: H.264 based layer encoded video. Lot of real-time video based application over mobiles (WiMax, Ev-DO etc.) could benefit from this.

Here's what I would like to do - the question is "how to":

a) A video is shot on a AVCHD (H.264) camcorder in a news gathering operation (for example, Surete du Quebec recently had three of it's cops, pretending to be anarchists (complete with bandanas; but wearing police issued boots - yes Keystone cops!), into a peaceful protest at Montebello Summit (to incite peaceful protesters to throw rocks at a phalanx of riot geared cops?)

b) 5 Minutes later, finish edit of 5 minutes of above cops AVCHD video (Sony Vegas Pro 8)

c) 1 minute later, send 720p video to local/national TV Broadcasters/Cable Networks AND post video to web site.

d) Video posted on web site is 720p (at 24, 50, or 60fps) - is it possible for the "auto detection" of the hardware and the bandwidth of the device trying to access the above posted video and then stream or progressive download with the "right/appropriate" resolution, frame rate, and data rate?

For example, the above posted 720p (at 24, 50, or 60fps) video to "scale" itself for HD play on a HD TV, and/or HD play on a computer, and/or play on a Nokia cell phone, and/or on Apple's new video iPod and so on.

Is scripting or coding or ... or.... involved? And if so .... what is it ... how to do it. If I remember (correctly or not!) MPEG-4/H.264 will have/has this kind of "scaling" or is it feedback loops or was it potential for the above kind of interactivity.

I suggest to add tutorial about MCTF in SVC.

I suggest: GOP, especially IGOP in JM confused me for a long time even I try to understand the whole meaning of this concept. Hope to read the paper on this topic.

Hi,

I suggest: some papers or tutorials (if exist) about hardware implementations of H.264 especially about the rate control part. I'm looking for a hardware implementation of rate control and any document which explain the details.

and also I think having some documents about rade-distorion optimization or rate and distortion modeling will be good too.

Updating intra prediction and transform documentation with High profile features (8x8 DCT and prediction) would be highly appreciated
